Appalachian Echoes is a three-hour, weekly syndicated radio program that highlights the talented artists, songwriters and musicians with ties to Appalachia, as well as the vibrant and growing genre of Americana music which often features the echoes of Appalachian influence. The show focuses on predominantly independent artists and music often overlooked by commercial radio playlists, and fuels a sense of listener loyalty based on home place pride.

Mark Erelli & Joe Henry were looking for an excuse to hang out, so we decided to get them together for a joint interview. It’s cool how many parallels we found between the two of them: Maine, waking up early, being friends with nice guys, living with chronic illness, being free of their own vanity. Mark’s new record is out now and Joe released an album in the fall (2025) with Mike Reid. Crossing fingers they figure out when they’ll officially collaborate, but for now, enjoy this special conversation on Basic Folk!
